In 2008, the Taitung Branch of the Tea Industry Improvement Station and Luye tea farmers and tea masters jointly developed the "Red Oolong" tea-making process. This process combines the fermentation of oolong tea with that of black tea, resulting in a unique tea-making technique that creates the perfect Red Oolong. Luye has overcome the limitations of low to mid-altitude tea areas and successfully revived the pure land tea fragrance of the south valley. In 2020, the new generation of young farmers and tea masters founded the "Red Oolong Tea Cooperative" to promote this gift from heaven to the world stage and become a source of pride for Taiwan.
